House League Director: Deb McGrath (firstname.lastname@example.org)
If you are interested in coaching a Local League team for the 2013/14 season, please contact the Local League Director at email@example.com.
Our Local League (or House League) program offers kids the opportunity to play recreational hockey regardless of their abilities. Our volunteers share the common goal of providing the children an atmosphere where good sportsmanship prevails above all else.
At EHMHA "House League" and "Local League" are the same thing. House League hockey is recreational minor hockey available to all interested participants. A Local League is where house league teams from different communities play each other in order to increase the number of teams in the league. EHMHA is part of a local league with Fergus, Elora, and Arthur.
How are Local League teams set up?
All Local League players participate in a grading session in September. Coaches are in the stands assessing players and then work together to draft their teams.
How can I become a local league coach or other bench staff?
Coaches are appointed by the Local League Director. Local League coach selections are generally not finalized until after the rep tryouts. If you are interested in coaching, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to receive an application form.
When does the Local League season run?
The Local League season starts with grading in early September and runs until Champs Day in late March. There is no Local League hockey scheduled during the Christmas Break or March Break.
How many games and practices do we get with Local League hockey?
Local League teams are budgeted for 20 hours of shared ice practice and 20 games over the course of the season. Atom and Novice games are three 10 minute periods, while home games for older aged groups (PeeWee through Midget) are longer. Fergus, Elora, and Arthur do not have the available ice to be able to offer longer game times. Every effort is made to give all teams a balanced schedule for home and away games. Local League teams will usually be scheduled for 1 practice and 1 game each week, however some weeks a local league team may have a practice or game bye.
What night will my practices be?
Unfortunately we are not able to confirm specific practice nights until September. We also understand that families are often involved in more than one recreational activity and that it would be very valuable to know when hockey will be. To help with that planning, the following is a TENTATIVE draft of which nights local league practices are most likely to be. Please don’t forget… this is only tentative, and is subject to change as team numbers are confirmed (please see below for more insight into the factors influencing the local league practice night schedule).
Division mid-week practices will most likely be:
Atom - Thurs, possibly Monday or Friday
PeeWee - Tues or Wed (possibly Mon or Thurs)
Bantam - most likely Tues (with some Wed or Thurs)
Midget - TBD
Is Local League open to both boys and girls?
All EHMHA hockey teams are open to both boys and girls. For ages PeeWee and up, female players will be provided with a separate dressing room. (see also Dressing Room Policy)
How far do the Local League teams travel?
Local League teams will travel to Elora, Fergus and Arthur for away games. Keep in mind that because each or our teams will have some away games again other Erin-Hillsburgh teams, each Local League team will be on the road less than half the time.
