News CHIP was held in Hillsburgh on Saturday, September 24. For the 2011/2012 season, the mid-week sessions for the CHIP program are scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday nights depending on which group you are in. Weekend sessions will be held on Saturday mornings.Chevrolet is running a helmet giveaway promotion. If you are 5 years old and registered in a Canadian minor hockey league, you are eligible to receive a free Bauer helmet from Chevrolet. Please visit our Schedules page for practice and game schedules. The Initiation Program is a progressive, learn to play teaching curriculum. Children lean through participating in practice drills and informal modified games (such as cross-ice hockey, relays, and obstacle courses). For more information, please see our CHIP Flyer.
Please review the FAQ's below and do not hesitate to contact chiphockey@ehmha.org with any questions! What will my child learn at the CHIP Program?
They will learn to skate. They will learn balance, agility and puck control. And, most of all, they will have fun!
What equipment will they need?
Players will need the following equipment:
What/when is grading?
All players will attend a grading session in mid-September to assist the coaches in grouping kids with similar capabilities. There are 3 levels in CHIP - G1, G2, and G3.
How many times will we be on the ice?
CHIP players are on the ice approximately 40 times between late September and March.
When will the ice times be?
Most weeks, you will be on the ice 1 night during the week and once on the weekend.
Where will we be playing?
The CHIP program is run from the Hillsburgh Arena.
My child is 7 - should they play CHIP or Novice Local League? If your child is 7 and has not yet been introduced to the fundamentals of hockey, you may want to start them in CHIP. We encourage all kids new to hockey to participate. If your child turns 7 this year and has some skating experience, you should attend the local league grading and the staff can recommend if your child should play CHIP or Novice. Although most kids are ages 4 to 6, we have included kids as young as 3 and as old as 10 who have benefited from the program.
Can I be an on-ice volunteer? We welcome on-ice volunteers - no experience required! Many of our newest skaters will need some helping hands when they first enter the program. A certification course called Speak Out will need to be completed shortly after the season starts. Please visit our Clinics page for more information on Speak Out and other clinics the EHMHA will be hosting throughout the season. |
